Hamas: Kidnap possible false flag operation to sabotage Palestinian reconciliation

Hamas plays down Israeli threats to carry out a wide scale invasion into the West Bank and the Gaza Strip

Hamas leader Dr. Salah Bardawil today played down Israeli threats to carry out a wide-scale invasion of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, saying that Israel is trying to blackmail the Palestinian Authority in order to sabotage the reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas.

In a statement to “Quds Press” Dr. Bardawil declined to make a link between the overnight Israeli air attacks and the disappearance of three Israeli settlers in Hebron and the major search and arrest operations in the West Bank.

“The abduction which was announced by the Zionist entity (Israel) is a one-sided story. No Palestinian faction has claimed responsibility. Read more »

Palestinian Unity Govt: Fairness? Or factions?

The Palestinians Unity Government has stumbled through its first week, with many still wondering what ministries and ministers there are – and aren’t. The Ministry of Detainees was the first casualty, being disestablished in favour of a ‘committee’ under the PLO – but a groundswell of popular outrage quickly saw it ‘re-established’ as a ministry without either a ministry or a minister, the portfolio then assigned by Abbas to PM Hamdallah – who quickly tossed it on like the hot potato it is to Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Social Affairs Shawqi al-Ayasa, where it still smoulders.

The new government might do well to remember that it is there to represent ALL Palestinians, not just Fatah and Hamas. That is there to promote the Palestinian cause, not personal or factional agendas – and especially not those of foreign interests. Read more »

In the name of God the Merciful

“Hold on to God and be not divided among yourselves”

At a time when the attack on the Palestinian cause is growing, at all levels; and at a time of increasing attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque, the first Qibla and the site of the Misra of the Prophet, peace be upon Him; and as operations to Judaize the occupied city of Jerusalem and eliminate its Arab identity intensify; and as our Islamic and Christian holy sites are desecrated; and as settlements penetrate the steadfast territory of the West Bank; and as the occupation neglects all international agreements, treaties, pacts and norms; as its army intensifies its aggressions and surpasses all borders, and its leaders scheme against our people and leaders by means of this loathsome division; and as [the occupation’s] settlers run wild over people, trees and stones; and as our male and female prisoners are subjected to the worst forms of abuse in the occupation’s jails. by Julie Webb-Pullman

A national unity government. Elections. A new-look PLO. Community reconciliation. Big hopes, even bigger expectations as representatives of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) and Hamas came to an agreement in Gaza today to form a national unity government and hold elections.

Much had been made of the so-called Palestinian political division, but how accurately does it describe the situation on the ground?

According to Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum, the division was not caused by Fatah and Hamas.
