Five Palestinians were killed and 40 others were injured including two journalists as Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) opened fire at a demonstration by the border fence east of Gaza City and near Khan Younis on Friday.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said Shadi Hussam Dawla, 20, Ahmad al-Harbawi, 20, and Abed al-Wahidi, 20, were shot and killed east of the al-Shujaiyeh neighborhood, while 15-year-old Muhammad al-Raqeb and Adnan Abu Alyan, 22, were killed after being shot by Israeli forces near Khan Younis.

At least 40 other Palestinians were injured, including two journalists. Two of the reported injured were transferred to Shifa Hospital in critical condition.

The PIC reporter said that dozens of young men headed to the borders near Nahal Oz military position to the east of Gaza City after the Friday prayer while raising Palestinian flags and chanting anti-occupation slogans.

He added that the IOF soldiers fired live rounds at the young men, who responded by throwing stones.

Meanwhile, in southern Gaza Strip, groups of young men marched to the southern borders to the east of Khan Younis and torched tires and chanted slogans against the occupation’s crimes.

IOF troops opened live fire at the peaceful demonstrators injuring two of them, one of them was hit with a bullet in his neck and his condition was described as serious.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that 200 Palestinians approached the security fence and hurled rocks and rolled burning tires at Israeli forces.

Israeli forces responded with live fire towards the “main instigators,” she said, confirming five direct hits.

The deaths in Gaza come amid renewed violence in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem on Friday.

Tensions had been mounting steadily for weeks across the occupied Palestinian territory due to Israeli restrictions on Palestinians seeking to enter the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem.

At least eight Palestinians including a 13-year-old boy were killed and 900 others have been injured in eight consecutive days of demonstrations and clashes in the occupied West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, at least 60 with live fire, medics said.
