The shocking decision by government-owned New Zealand Super Fund (NZSF) NOT to divest from Israel Chemicals Ltd (ICL), manufacturer of white phosphorus, blatantly violates the NZSF Responsibilities of:

“ethical investment including policies, standards and procedures for avoiding prejudice to New Zealand’s reputation as a responsible member of the world community”

and Standards for Human Rights: –

1. Support and respect human rights 2. No complicity in abuses..

1 Shekel a Day school lunch project for children in Gaza

PRESS RELEASE
Al Majed Association – Gaza

Kids with their coupons - and lunch. Yum!

Kids with their coupons – and lunch. Yum!

Many children in Gaza come from a background of high poverty, and families just cannot afford to give their children food or money. The “1 Shekel a Day” project provides 1000 children from different schools in the Middle Area of the Gaza strip with a “1 shekel a day” coupon to buy a school lunch.

After six weeks of successful implementation, and with a high demand from the public to continue, we are trying to raise funds to carry on until the summer break, in two weeks time.

Food in their tummies is important for every growing child, and essential for their concentration. Helping a child in this project does not just feed their body, but also feeds their mind, their future – and the future of Gaza.

Please, go to our page to donate.

God bless you all.

In a letter transmitting to the Security Council the public summary of a report of the Board of Inquiry regarding incidents in Gaza during the recent conflict, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today expressed his “profound and continuing concern” for civilian populations of the Gaza Strip and Israel.

“The agony of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, and the tragic, decades-long predicament they endure there, is reflected in the report of the Board of Inquiry,” said Mr. Ban in the letter. “We should also bear in mind that Israeli civilians in southern Israel continue to face the threat of rocket and terrorist attacks by Hamas and other militant groups.” Read more »

Press Statement

Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi

Egypt’s President Mohammed Morsi

21 April 2015

President Morsi has been sentenced to 20 years in prison in the first of his trials following his illegal removal from office in a military coup in 2013. Dr. Mohamed Morsi became the first freely elected President of Egypt following Egypt’s short lived 2011 revolution.

This sentence is symptomatic of the deepening human rights crisis in Egypt. It results from one of a series of political show trials in Egypt, in which due process and human rights norms are routinely ignored. These prosecutions, which result in either long prison sentences or the death sentence, are no more than a tool used by the regime to repress dissent. Read more »

On 17 April 2015, Palestinians around the world commemorate Prisoners’ Day in solidarity with thousands of Palestinian prisoners and detainees, including minors, held in Israeli prisons, and with those subjected to torture and ill-treatment.

To mark this important day, four human rights organizations – Adalah – The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, Physicians for Human Rights-Israel, and the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel – are issuing this joint statement to call upon the international community to urge Israel to heed international standards and recommendations to guarantee and protect the human rights of Palestinian prisoners and detainees at a time when torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment (CIDT) is increasingly reported in Israel. The United Nations in particular has a responsibility to work towards the best interests of the child during conflict, including in preventing torture and CIDT. Read more »

On Prisoners Day, Addameer calls on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the grave violations against Palestinian political prisoners

PRESS RELEASE
ADDAMEER PRISONER SUPPORT & HUMAN RIGHTS ASSOCIATION

Prisoner (400 x 300)

This past year witnessed an unprecedented level of Israeli violence against Palestinians, including killing over 2,000 civilians in Gaza, demolishing 20,000 homes, displacing more than 500,000 Palestinian at the peak of the attack and arresting 8,000 Palestinians across historic Palestine.

Israel is committing nothing short of a modern-day ethnic cleansing before our eyes; in the continuing quest for full annexation of Palestinian land and the expansion of Israel’s colonial frontier.

The time is more urgent than ever for the international community to hold Israel accountable for its recurring and blatant war crimes against Palestinians, especially those held captive in the Occupation’s jails. Read more »
